Large EU-based companies
Companies incorporated in the EU with more than 250 employees, more than €40 million in annual revenue, or more than €20 million in total assets. You only need to meet two of the three criteria.
CSRD compliance software for EU companies
EmissionOwl helps companies across the EU collect emission data, calculate their carbon footprint, and generate audit-ready CSRD reports without needing a team of consultants.
Complete across ESRS E1 disclosure points
Why this matters now
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, CSRD, is the most significant expansion of corporate reporting obligations in EU history. It requires large companies to publicly disclose detailed, audited information about greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, climate risks, and decarbonisation plans.
Unlike voluntary ESG frameworks of the past, CSRD is a legal requirement. Non-compliance exposes companies to regulatory penalties, loss of investor confidence, and reputational damage. Reports must be verified by an external auditor with the same rigour as financial accounts.
The core of CSRD climate reporting is ESRS E1, the European Sustainability Reporting Standard for Climate Change. It requires disclosure across nine structured areas, from transition plans and emissions targets to Scope 1 2 3 emissions and climate-related financial risks.
For most companies, this is the first time they have ever had to measure and publish these numbers. The challenge is knowing exactly what data to collect, how to calculate it correctly, and how to present it in a format an auditor can stand behind.
Are you in scope?
The first wave of companies began reporting in 2025. If you are not yet compliant, the window to act is narrowing.
Companies incorporated in the EU with more than 250 employees, more than €40 million in annual revenue, or more than €20 million in total assets. You only need to meet two of the three criteria.
All companies listed on EU-regulated markets, including small and medium-sized listed companies with some transitional relief until 2026.
Companies headquartered outside the EU that generate more than €150 million in annual EU turnover and have at least one subsidiary or branch in the EU.
Not sure if you are in scope? Most companies with more than 250 employees operating in the EU are. If you supply to large EU companies, your customers will soon be asking for your emissions data anyway.
ESRS E1 - what you must disclose
ESRS E1 is the climate standard within CSRD. It has nine structured disclosure requirements. EmissionOwl guides you through every one.
Some disclosures can be deferred in your first reporting year. EmissionOwl identifies which apply and flags phase-in provisions.
